News | Auction Result | White Ground Project at Christie’s is 100% Sold.

Fu Qiumeng Fine Art is pleased to announce that the special project White Ground, co-organized by gallery director Fu Qiumeng and Christie’s during Christie’s New York Asian Art Week, concluded on September 30, 2020. The seven artworks, created by artists represented by Fu Qiumeng Fine Art, were 100% sold at the auction. This marks the first time that these artworks enter the auction of Asian contemporary art. This collaboration can be seen as an experiment that aims at redefining the boundary between the traditional and the contemporary. It, for the first time, brought artworks rooted in traditional Asian aesthetics into the realm of global contemporary art, breaking the opposition between traditional art and contemporary art.

During the exhibition, buyers showed a strong interest in Asian contemporary artworks that connect traditional aesthetics and contemporary visuality. The robust auction result is a further proof of the necessity and future potential of QM Project.

This online auction is part of Christie’s New York Asia Art Week. The eight onsite auctions realized US$83 million, up 100% over the same period last year. The sale total achieved 175% of low estimate. Buyers from forty-one countries in five continents participated in the auctions. Asian buying accounted for over half of the total by value. This demonstrates Christie’s leading role in the market for Asian Art in New York.
