NEWS | COMMISSIONED BY UOB, YAU WING FUNG’S INCREDIBLE INTERACTIVE INK ART INSTALLATION IS NOW ON VIEW AT ART CENTRAL

As of the same time of Art Basel Hong Kong, Art Central Hong Kong presented a marvellous interactive ink art installation ‘Mountains Beyond’ (2024) to the public. As a courtesy of the esteemed support from United Overseas Bank, Yau Wing Fung created a large-scale cyclical installation which invites audiences to an immersive experience of ink-drawn landscapes inspired by Hong Kong’s inhabited islands.

The landscape painting was mounted onto the inner walls of a monumental cylindrical structure. The artist formed the landscape into a circular imagery with LED lights along the inner walls. As viewers freely navigate the space, a dynamic interaction between humans and nature is fostered. Yau took the audiences onto an exploratory journey wandering through mountains and rivers, creating an exceptional way of viewing landscapes. This interactive artwork comes alive with patches of light, triggered by visitor proximity, casting a poignant reflection on the impacts of light pollution and environmental change.
