China Institute

FQM is pleased to share the recent exhibition China Institute Gallery at 60, 1966 - 2026: Selections from Three Millennia of Chinese Art at China Institute Gallery. Opening on September 10th, 2026, the exhibition celebrates the Gallery’s 60th anniversary with artifacts and artworks drawn from the Institute’s enormous collection of Chinese art over the country’s five thousand years of history. The exhibition will be on view through January 3rd, 2027.

Founded in New York City in 1926, China Institute of America is an internationally renowned U. S. nonprofit organization dedicated to deepening the world’s understanding of China through programs in art, business, cuisine, culture, and education. The Institute’s gallery, opened in 1966, has presented more than 120 exhibitions showcasing both historical and contemporary works across a wide range of media and art forms.

Celebrating the Institute’s 100 years anniversary and the Gallery’s 60 years anniversary, the exhibition features 90 works including fine jades, rare bronze vessels, paintings, calligraphy, Buddhist sculpture, ceramics, auspicious symbols, and scholars’ objects dating from as early as 3000 BCE to the 21st century on loan from more than 30 institutions and private collectors that demonstrate how the Gallery’s presentations have illuminated pathways to a deeper understanding of the arts of China.

The exhibition also features artworks by FQM artists C. C. Wang (1907 - 2003), Wang Fangyu (1913 - 1997), and Wang Mansheng (b. 1962) to showcase Chinese art’s contemporary inheritance and metamorphosis in the Chinese diaspora community in New York.

The exhibition is co-curated by Annette Juliano, Alfreda Murck, and David Ake Sensabaugh.
