Architectural Digest (AD) featured artist Chen Duxi’s studio in Beijing in its Visit column. From the avant-garde works of Nobuyoshi Araki to sculptures from the Northern Wei Dynasty, from vinyl record players to vintage furniture, Chen Duxi’s unique collection of objects creates his own universe. The Artist Chen Duxi’s Relentless Hunt (for Treasures) not only explores his diverse collection in the studio but also delves into the core philosophy rooted in his art practice. Chen Duxi’s artistic journey has gone through multiple phases, and his unique language is gradually developed through his constant interactions with objects. These collectibles, diversified in forms and functions, through Chen’s thoughtful arrangements, gradually unfold the layers of his life.

These elements form the language of his artistic expression, much like how his paintings unveil the beauty of plants, animals, and ancient microscopic worlds from their most primitive form. Chen Duxi enjoys discovering clues and rhythms between objects, sensing what they encode, while he acts as the “translator,” integrating what he perceives into his paintings. As the artist says, “My life and my artistic creations are inseparable, in a way that my artistic creations resemble a collection of my life in multiple aspects. I need many antennae to sense this world and transform what I’ve sensed into my paintings.”
