Overview

Brandon Sadler (b. 1986) is an Atlanta-based multidisciplinary artist whose exploration of East Asian culture began through calligraphy, fusing the English alphabet with Chinese brushwork and stroke-order traditions to forge a unique visual language. Influenced by Shaw Brothers cinema, martial arts’ natural philosophy, and the Wu-Tang Clan’s blend of Kung Fu and Hip Hop, his work bridges disciplined tradition and contemporary innovation.

Sadler earned a B.F.A. in Illustration from the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) and was honored with Distinguished Alumnus Award in 2019 for his acclaimed murals in Marvel Studios’ Black Panther and his outstanding contributions to the arts.

Sadler’s career spans painting, calligraphy, murals, installations, and mixed-media works. His practice is informed by a global perspective and a deep engagement with ink-based art traditions. Sadler’s work has been exhibited in museums and private collections around the world, and he continues to forge new paths for cultural exchange, spiritual inquiry, and artistic innovation.

In the summer of 2023, he was commissioned by Atlanta’s High Museum of Art to design and build the Pop Culture Gallery and Woodblock Print Gallery – the entry spaces to the High’s Samurai exhibition (June 23 - Sept 17, 2023) and paint original artworks telling the story of Yasuke, “the Black samurai.” In addition to his fine art endeavors, Sadler has successfully collaborated with several major brands, such as Disney, Google, and Microsoft, bringing his distinctive artistic vision to a global audience.
