Tai Xiangzhou’s solo exhibition Cosmoscapes: Ink Paintings by Tai Xiangzhou opened at the Nanchizi Art Museum in Beijing on May 29, 2021（for details of the show, check out the following link in Chinese). The show is organized by the Nanchizi Art Museum and the Art Institute of Chicago, and jointly organized by Yunmiao Culture. It is a parallel exhibition of Tai’s solo exhibition now on view at the Art Institute of Chicago. The show takes a retrospective view of Tai’s paintings of the past decade, especially the works that exemplify the artist’s long-term focus on the intersection between cosmology, celestial phenomena, and painting. The exhibition lasts till August 31, 2021.
An interview, recently published on Hiart, introduces Tai Xiangzhou’s career path, his thoughts about Song-dynasty landscape painting, the significance of thinking about landscape painting in present times, and how Tai positions the aim of his artistic creation. The interview also includes a detailed introduction of Tai’s painting process, as well as his thoughts about cosmology and tradition—two recurring themes of Tai’s research and art practice. Tai Xiangzhou’s solo exhibition Cosmoscapes: Ink Paintings by Tai Xiangzhou at the Art Institute of Chicago lasts till September 20, 2021. The exhibition is curated by Tao Wang, Pritzker Chair of Asian Art & Curator of Chinese Art at the Art Institute of Chicago. Fourteen works by Tai, including horizontal and vertical scrolls, screens, and album leaves, are on view at the show.
