Fu Qiumeng Fine Art is delighted to share news of Si Tian Jian, a major exhibition of artist Tai Xiangzhou at Zhi Art Museum in Chengdu, China, opening September 29, 2025. This landmark exhibition traces over two decades of Tai’s pioneering exploration of time, cosmology, and painting, presenting more than 70 works across painting, installation, video, and manuscript.

Curated by Professor Zheng Yan (Peking University) and Wang Conghui (Director of Zhi Art Museum and Director of Bao Foundation), the exhibition borrows its title from the historic Song-Yuan era bureau that oversaw astronomy and calendrical science. By evoking Si Tian Jian, the show situates Tai’s practice within China’s unique cosmological worldview, while engaging in a cross-disciplinary dialogue with contemporary science, art, and technology.

Commissioned works establish resonances with Sichuan’s ancient Shu civilization and archaeological sites, including Sanxingdui and Baodun. Large-scale works like 星宿海——银河 and the immersive scroll 岷江图 create poetic connections between rivers, constellations, and philosophical notions of time. Other highlights include Tai’s first video work, Time, with music by Yao Qian and Yi Yang, and the monumental ink reinterpretation of Li Tang’s Wanhe Songfeng Tu.

In Zheng Yan’s words, “He approaches painting with the precision of a historian and the inquiry of a philosopher, wielding compass and astrolabe as his tools.” Wang Conghui adds: “Tai’s work repositions Chinese landscape painting within a global art-historical context, while probing the evolutionary laws that link science and artistic creation.”
