Feng Zikai and his comic works

丰子恺,《人散后,一钩新月天如水》,水墨。1924。

​​Feng Zikai published his ink painting After everyone has departed, the new moon a hook, the sky like water (人散后,一钩新月天如水) on the journal Our July in 1924. Later in his career, Feng created a colored ink version of this painting, adding details such as the armchairs and the trees. This is one of Feng’s best-known pieces. Scholars commonly associate this piece with the beginning of comics in China. Zheng Zhenduo, editor of Literary Weekly, initially used the term comic (漫画) to refer to Feng Zikai’s works.
