Dealing with Artworks in religion and art is ambivalent. On the one hand, they enable one to see something that cannot be seen and even making them attractive, for example, saints, gods, or transcendent beings. On the other hand, the artworks also showed something that may perhaps remain betters in invisible. Artworks in religion developed a sensitivity for the presence of the absent and the absence of the present.
“BILD MACHT RELIGION (IMAGE POWERS RELIGION)–Art between Reverence, Prohibition and Destruction”will be on view from October 13, 2018 to February 24, 2019. For more information, please visit the exhibition website.
